Funding Initiatives

The College of Nursing offers a number of funding opportunities through the Nursing Unit for Research and Scholarship Excellence (NURSE) that support preliminary research development and activities, trainee engagement, knowledge mobilization, and grant re-submission.

Below you will find a listing of our current and upcoming internal grant opportunities. These opportunities are only available to College of Nursing researchers. Please contact NURSE for additional details.

 

CIHR Bridge Funding Program

This fund will provide one year of funding for high quality College of Nursing-led grants for College of Nursing tenure-track or tenured faculty members. This initiative aims to support excellence in research and support faculty who have received a high score in the CIHR competition but were not funded in enhancing their proposal and re-apply to CIHR.

Funding amount available per award: Up to $20,000

Applications are due within two weeks of final Notice of Decision from CIHR.

CIHR Seed Funding Program

The purpose of the CIHR Seed Funding Program is to prepare College of Nursing researchers for the CIHR Project grant competition. This funding program will support pilot and/or feasibility studies for a cohort of up to four faculty members who will each be submitting CIHR Project grant applications within the next 12-18 months.

Funding amount available per award: Up to $15,000, up to 4 projects funded per year

Applications are due May 15 and November 15.

Myrtle Crawford Funding Program

Myrtle Evangeline Crawford (1923 – 1989) was a long-time faculty member at the College of Nursing. She was known throughout her lifetime as a tremendous influencer in the nursing profession, both locally and nationally. This fund provides the opportunity to invite a distinguished lecturer to the College of Nursing to support knowledge transfer and mobilization within the College of Nursing and the University of Saskatchewan.

Funding amount available per award: Up to $6,000, one project funded per competition

Applications are due October 31, every second year. (Currently closed)

New Faculty Start-Up Funding Program

The purpose of this program is to provide start-up funds to newly hired tenured and tenure-track faculty members in the College of Nursing. The goals of this funding program are two-fold:

  1. Help faculty develop their program of research and targeted research plans for the first three years of their time within the College,
  2. Position faculty for future research success at provincial and national levels.

Funding amount available per award: Up to $20,000 (to be matched by Vice-Provost Faculty Relations Office)

Undergraduate Summer Research Fellowship: Rxcognizing Research Potential

The Rxcognizing Research Potential: Undergraduate Summer Research Fellowships are designed to introduce undergraduate nursing students to scientific research and nurture research potential. The Fellowship also acts to highlight the College of Nursing research signature areas and guide students through the practical processes required for conducting research.

Funding amount available per award: Up to $5,000 per student project, up to 4 projects funded per year

Interdisciplinary Summer Research Program

The Interdisciplinary Summer Research program provides undergraduate salary awards to facilitate the research training of summer students enrolled in the Colleges of Medicine, Pharmacy and Nutrition, Nursing, and Kinesiology. Each project involves a collaboration between faculty from two or more Colleges who jointly supervise a student research project. The purpose of these awards is to provide students with valuable research experience, inspiring them to consider pursuing graduate studies; as well as increase interdisciplinary research within the Health Sciences.

Funding amount available per award: Up to $9,000

Applications are due February 28.
