Management of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) in Adults: Clinical Update

The University of Saskatchewan (USask) College of Nursing micro-credential, Management of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) in Adults: Clinical Update, offers learners the ability to update their knowledge and skills in the care and treatment of individuals living with MDD.

Based on the newest Canadian Network for Mood and Anxiety Treatments (CANMAT) guidelines, this micro-credential equips learners to assess/diagnose, collaborate with the client and other members of the healthcare team to develop an individualized evidence informed treatment plan, and monitor treatment response/outcomes for individuals living with uncomplicated and complex MDD.

Quizzes, case studies, discussion board posts, and a final case analysis provide opportunities for practice, feedback from the facilitator and peers, and authentic assessments in real-world contexts.

This course is offered asynchronously online over five weeks.

Topics of study include:

  • A review of the pathophysiology of MDD
  • Trauma-informed assessment/diagnosis
  • Measurement-based care
  • Optimizing nonpharmacologic and pharmacotherapy treatment of uncomplicated and complex presentations of MDD, and
  • The importance of both symptomatic and functional remission.

Learners who submit all assignments and demonstrate competence in each learning outcome will finish with a digital badge stating they completed the course.
