Clinical Placements

Clinical Overview

Clinical practice education is an integral part of a nursing program. Clinical placements occur in a variety of settings, and may vary each term depending on availability. Although students will not have the exact same clinical experience, each clinical setting will provide a unique opportunity for students to apply their knowledge and skills in a practice setting.

Placement Information

The College of Nursing strives to support students to develop competence in nursing near their home campus/site, whether that is urban or rural. There are circumstances that will require students to attend clinical outside of their home campus/site during all years of their program. This requirement is based on availability of clinical placements and/or instructors. Students will be required to attend clinical on weekends and hours such as evening and night shifts, in addition to day shifts during the week. 12-hour shifts are a regular part of the nursing clinical experience. It is strongly recommended that students do not plan any events during clinical as schedules can change with short notice.

Students that are required to attend clinical in a center outside of their home campus/site may be eligible for Educational Enhancement Bursary support offered by the College of Nursing.

All placements are arranged by College of Nursing clinical coordinators. Please DO NOT contact the agencies directly for any reason (e.g. to inquire about clinical placement opportunities or scheduling changes). For detailed information about particular placements, please contact the clinical coordinator at your site.
