Biography

Dr. Sarah Stahlke is a registered nurse with a master’s degree in health services administration and a PhD in sociology (work, organizations, and professions). Concurrent with her doctoral studies, she completed a two-year CIHR-funded training fellowship in qualitative methodology.

Dr. Stahlke’s clinical background is mainly in the operating room, but she has also worked in medicine/surgery and in ICU. After moving into administration, she worked in hospital management, professional regulation, policy development, and program planning. Dr. Stahlke joined the University of Saskatchewan College of Nursing in 2023; previously, she was an associate professor in the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Alberta.

Research Interests

Broadly speaking, Dr. Stahlke’s area of focus is nursing work. She is interested in the ways that nursing knowledge can be advanced and utilized for transformation to healthcare delivery. Her research projects explore non-traditional and extended/advanced nursing roles (self-employed nurses, NPs, remote nurses), organizational and regulatory supports for nursing practice, nurse-led policy development, and philosophical questions about nursing knowledge. Dr. Stahlke is also interested in transdisciplinarity and advancements in qualitative methodology.

Dr. Stahlke has taught undergraduate and graduate courses on nursing leadership, research methods, evidence-based practice, nursing philosophy, professional practice, organizational studies, and sociology (health, work, family).
