Celebrating Research Success

Dr. Solina Richter publishes seven articles since joining USask College of Nursing.

Dr. Solina Richter (DCur) is dean of the University of Saskatchewan (USask) College of Nursing. Despite her heavy workload as leader of the college, she remains committed to her program of research. Since becoming dean in August, Dr. Richter has successfully published seven articles.

Dr. Richter’s research program focuses on the social determinants of health and frontline practices that protect and promote the health of low socioeconomic populations. She also believes that global collaboration is important and puts emphasis on building capacity for partnerships that address global health.

“I am fortunate to have established strong relationships with very successful researchers and graduate students both in Canada and around the world,” said Dr. Richter. “Collaborating with these individuals creates opportunities and allows me to work on a number of projects simultaneously.”

Her current research focuses on a range of subjects spanning from youth suicide prevention to supporting community health workers in Rwanda; the impact of COVID-19 and reproductive health in low to middle-income countries to midwives’ experiences in Ghana.

“I am passionate about research; I am always wanting to do more – to make a difference,” said Dr. Richter. “When people think about nursing, they don’t think about research. The general public is not aware of the depth and breadth of research that nurses do. I want to change that – to share my research and I encourage my colleagues to do so as well.”
