Assistant Professor Noelle Rohatinsky Receives Provost’s Teaching Award

Assistant Professor Dr. Noelle Rohatinsky has been awarded a Provost’s College Award for Outstanding Teaching.

The annual Provost's Award for Outstanding Teaching recognizes an outstanding teacher in each College at the University of Saskatchewan. The College of Nursing is proud to announce, Assistant Professor Dr. Noelle Rohatinksy from the Saskatoon campus is the 2018 College of Nursing recipient.

Noelle joined the College of Nursing in 2006 as a Clinical Instructor and in 2012 was hired into a tenure track position as an Assistant Professor. Dr. Rohatinsky has taught extensively in our undergraduate nursing programs by teaching and coordinating theory, labs and clinical courses in the areas of medical/surgical nursing and foundational nursing skills. She regularly supports graduate students in the College of Nursing, currently supervising and on the committees of six students.

Her background in medical and surgical nursing, combined with her ongoing casual work as a Registered Nurse (RN) on a general surgery unit, allows Dr. Rohatinsky to provide a learning environment for students that is reflective of bedside practice, supporting students to deliver competent care to patients in the clinical setting. She brings her real-life clinical experiences into the classroom to teach students the expectations of RNs in acute care settings.

“Dr. Rohatinsky goes above and beyond for her students in so many ways,” said Associate Professor Dr. Shelley Peacock. “She meets weekly with lab instructors to ensure consistency in the delivery of lab content, creates additional skills practice opportunities, gives students the opportunity to individually review exam feedback and regularly reviews student feedback and makes changes to her teaching to improve the student experience in whatever way she can while remaining true to the intents of the course.”

Dr. Rohatinsky calls herself a lifelong learner, earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in 2002, Master of Nursing in 2008 and Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing in 2013. She also currently holds Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) certification in Medical Surgical Nursing. She encourages her students to never stop learning and models this for her students through her ongoing clinical practice.

“The College of Nursing is most fortunate to have a professor of Dr. Rohatinsky’s caliber,” said Assistant Professor Dr. Kristen Haase. “She has made such a significant contribution to teaching in our undergraduate program. Her teaching ensures students understand the need for excellence in their clinical practice.”

Following the awards ceremony on April 27, Dr. Rohatinsky commented, “I am truly honoured to receive this award and be recognized for my teaching. To be able to share my passion for nursing and teaching with my students is a privilege. I am grateful to have the opportunity to contribute to the professional development of future registered nurses within the province.”
