Undergraduate Student Claims Top Spot in Poster Competition

Jillian Henry-Wilkinson was recognized as having the best student poster at an international conference.

The College of Nursing would like to congratulate one of our undergraduate students on claiming top spot in a poster competition. Jillian Henry-Wilkinson, 4th year Bachelor of Science in Nursing student from our Yorkton Campus, was awarded the Best Student Poster for her abstract, Getting to the point: The need for HIV/HCV prevention programs within forensic environments, at the 15th biennial Custody & Caring International Conference on the Nurse’s Role in the Criminal Justice System.

“There were a number of student posters submitted for the competition, but the fact Jillian is an undergraduate student and hers was recognized as the best, alongside a PhD student from the University of Calgary, is a big accomplishment for Jillian, one she should be very proud of,” said conference chair Cindy Peternelj-Taylor.

Jillian has had the opportunity to work with HIV and Hepatitis support groups in both Yorkton and Kamsack, Saskatchewan. She has also been involved with harm reduction programs within her community. These experiences have furthered her desire to advocate for these special populations. She hopes to inspire healthcare providers and policy-makers to continue to eliminate the stigma surrounding blood-borne diseases and to provide support for harm reduction and mental health programs.
