Dr. Angela Bowen with her grandsons

Dr. Angela Bowen Publishes "Today's Grandmother: Your Guide to the First Two Years"

College of Nursing Associate Professor Dr. Angela Bowen has been caring for pregnant women and new mothers for almost forty years.

With her knowledge and experience, she felt well prepared to become a grandmother, but soon discovered she had much to learn. After spending some time in her new role, she's compiled her much sought after advice and published "Today's Grandmother: Your Guide to the First Two Years".

The birth of a baby is an exciting time for everyone, but so much has changed in the last thirty years, it can also be intimidating for the new grandmother. Dr. Bowen's new book is the how-to-guide for grandmothers and grandmothers-to-be. She has gathered practical information and sensible tips to help new grandmothers navigate this wonderful and transforming, yet sometimes challenging relationship. Explore the most up-to-date facts about pregnancy and birth, learn the latest in baby care, such as nutrition, sleep, equipment and safety and prepare for the new family dynamics, challenges, emotions and parenting approaches of today.

When asked about her inspiration behind the book, Dr. Bowen replied, "Many parents do a lot of research about how to raise their baby, so I know as a grandmother, I too need to keep up on the research. My husband frequently heard expectant and new grandmothers ask me for advice, so he suggested I write the book. I took him up on the idea and loved every minute I spent writing it."

Come and meet Dr. Angela Bowen at her upcoming book launch on November 2nd in Regina at Chapters (2625 Gordon Road) from 11 am - 2 pm and on November 4th at McNally Robinson (3130 8th Street East) in Saskatoon at 7 pm.

Today's Grandmother is available for purchase through www.Amazon.com and at McNally Robinson in Saskatoon and Winnipeg. Twenty-five percent of book sale proceeds go towards the Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign, Stephen Lewis Foundation. This is an organization of grandmothers who raise funds to support grandmothers in Africa who are raising their grandchildren orphaned by HIV/AIDS.
