Dr. Joyce Davison Receives Saskatoon Local Hero Award
She's a member of the Prostate Cancer Pathway Provincial Working Group, she's served as a Provincial and Regional Consultant with the Saskatchewan Ministry of Health, as an expert consultant to the Canadian Cancer Society and a member of the Education and Research Committee at St. Paul's Hospital Foundation Urology Centre of Health. But most recently, Dr. Joyce Davison was the recipient of the Prostate Cancer Canada's Local Hero Award.
On September 25th at TCU Place in Saskatoon, Prostate Cancer Canada, in partnership with St. Paul's Hospital Foundation, hosted Saskatoon's first ever Wake Up Call Breakfast. This is the only Canada-wide business breakfast series dedicated to the fight against prostate cancer. At each of the breakfasts, Prostate Cancer Canada celebrates a local hero who has made an extraordinary contribution in the fight against prostate cancer through courage, inspiration and dedication. Dr. Joyce Davison was not only the first ever recipient of the Saskatoon Local Hero Award, but more notably, the first female in the history of the award to receive the honor.
"I was extremely honored to receive this award," said Dr. Davison. When asked about her continued Prostate Cancer research, she replied, "I hope to work with the St. Paul's Hospital Foundation and the Saskatoon Health Authority to further develop additional evidence based multi-disciplinary support programs that will be made available to prostate cancer survivors and their partners at the Leslie and Irene Dubé Urology Centre of Health."

About Dr. Joyce Davison
In addition to being an Associate Professor at the U of S College of Nursing, Dr. Joyce Davison is also an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Urologic Sciences at the University of British Columbia. She has been conducting research over the past 20 years, specifically in the area of prostate cancer in Manitoba, British Columbia and now Saskatchewan. While living in BC, she worked as a Clinical Research Scientist at the Vancouver Prostate Centre for 10 years before moving to Saskatchewan. Her research program aims to improve treatment decision making and quality of life of prostate cancer patients and their partners throughout their illness.
