Technology for Students
The nursing program makes extensive use of online and electronic resources. Students will be required to have regular access to a current model (<3 years old) computer and a reliable high speed internet connection in order to be successful in the program. This requirement can be fulfilled in a variety of ways (e.g. purchasing a personal laptop, using an existing family desktop, accessing common computer labs, etc.).
It is strongly recommended students consider purchasing their own computer system or laptop to help ensure dependable access is maintained throughout the program. The U of S Campus Computer Store has special student pricing incentives and will ship products province wide.
Suggested computer specs for new purchases:
- Quad Core 2.50GHz/3.30GHz
- 4GB RAM
- 500GB HD
- Win7 Pro
- High Speed Internet
The College of Nursing is a Microsoft Windows computing environment. Students are not required to have a Windows based computer; however, they are encouraged to obtain the Microsoft Office bundle for Windows or Mac. The Microsoft Student Advantage program at U of S allows nursing students to download and install the latest Microsoft Office software on up to five computers at no cost. This includes full versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and other titles.
