Indigenous Initiatives
University of Saskatchewan Community of Indigenous Nursing
Our Knowledge Keeper and Indigenous Advisor Dr. Kathleen McMullin works with students at all sites to build community, provide assessment and support. Although UCIN primarily supports Indigenous students through their nursing education, support is extended to all nursing students when needed.
UCIN provides the following services:
- Academic and personal advising in a culturally sensitive environment
- Referrals/Advisement for childcare, housing and funding concerns
- Tutoring for various classes (when needed)
- Ceremonial gatherings and sharing circles
- Student space with computer, printing and internet access (may vary by site)
- Access to Elders
- Assistance with applications and course registration
- Partnering with post-secondary coordinators and communities
The College of Nursing has set aside 16.6% of seats for Indigenous applicants who meet the minimum entrance requirements, including seats in our graduate level Nurse Practitioner program.
There is a great story on our website here highlighting the success and influence of the UCIN program.
If you have any questions or need help with current or upcoming classes, applying into nursing, or want to schedule an appointment with the UCIN nursing advisor, please contact us. Come join Canada’s most successful program for graduating Indigenous nurses!
