Yvonne Margaret Rose Brown (1940-2016) Professor Emeritus College of Nursing

Yvonne Margaret Rose Brown, University of Saskatchewan Professor Emeritus College of Nursing, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2016 with her husband, Dr. F. Barry Brown, by her side.

Yvonne had a long and distinguished career in Health Sciences, her main area of professional practice and scholarly work was in women's health: perinatal loss, AIDS and the effects of cultural practices on women's health.

As Dean of the College of Nursing (1989-2000), Yvonne was instrumental in establishing the Nursing Education Program of Saskatchewan (NEPS) contributing to baccalaureate as entry to practice in Saskatchewan.

Yvonne was born and raised in Strasbourg, Saskatchewan to parents Margareta Isabella and Ernest Bror Forsman. She moved to Saskatoon in 1958 to attend the College of Nursing, University of Saskatchewan where she earned a BScN and BA with Great Distinction, as well as a subsequent MCEd. (1983).

Travelling the world with her husband of 53 years, whether consulting, teaching, or simply being tourists, one of the highlights of her career was taking annual groups of nursing students to India for an international experience in their senior clinical practicum. A consummate gardener and gourmet cook Yvonne loved spending time with family at Little Bear Lake. Yvonne was a wonderful role model and will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by her friends, family, students and colleagues.
