USask Celebrates First Nursing Students at Muenster Distributed Site

USask Nursing and St. Peter’s College sign MOA as nursing students begin program in Muenster.

On September 18, the University of Saskatchewan (USask) College of Nursing celebrated the first intake of Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) students in Muenster, Sask.

The partnership between USask College of Nursing and St. Peter’s College was announced earlier this year, but representatives from both institutions made it official during the formal signing event held September 18 at St. Peter’s College.

“This partnership expands USask Nursing’s “learn where you live” philosophy, giving students from east central Saskatchewan the opportunity to study nursing closer to home,” said USask College of Nursing Dean Dr. Solina Richter (DCur).

“It is an exciting day to see the collaboration come together and to welcome our first nursing students in Muenster. We look forward to celebrating the Class of 2027 Bachelor of Science in Nursing graduates from the St. Peter’s College distributed nursing site!”

“St. Peter’s College is overjoyed to be sharing the announcement of this precedent setting new program offering at the college,” said St. Peter’s President & Vice-Chancellor Rob Harasymchuk.

“St. Peter’s has long been known for its mission-centered focus on academic excellence and support for student wellness and success, and our environment will contribute positively for nursing students who study here. This collaboration is an important contributor to our provincial health care systems need for more registered nurses in the future and will provide significant direct benefits to our region.”

Through this partnership, USask College of Nursing and St. Peter’s College will work together to deliver the BSN program, meaning students will have the opportunity to complete their undergraduate nursing degree without having to relocate.

Students will take their first year of pre-professional classes through St. Peter’s College, then apply to USask College of Nursing to complete Years 2-4 of the nursing program also at St. Peter’s College. Previously, once students completed their pre-professional classes and were accepted into Years 2-4 of the nursing program, they transferred to the main USask campus in Saskatoon or other distributed nursing sites to complete their Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.

When applications open this fall for the USask BSN program, students will now have two options to choose from when applying. In addition to regular admissions, USask College of Nursing has introduced an early admission process for the BSN program. Early admission seats are available across the province at all campuses and distributed sites, including St. Peter’s College.
