“The center of the flower represents my core belief that teaching should be learner-centered,” said Dr. Kristoff.

“The surrounding petals symbolize my teaching values of creating psychologically safe learning environments, effective teaching, lifelong learning, aspiring to lead, and mentorship. My teaching focuses on connecting with the learner, while weaving together experiences with new knowledge, to produce meaningful and lasting learning.”

Dr. Kristoff completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University Saskatchewan in 1997, Bachelor of Arts in Sociology at the University of Regina in 1998, USask Master of Nursing in 2005, and most recently, her Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Administration from USask in 2020.

Dr. Kristoff is a registered nurse who began her nursing career at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, followed by working at One Arrow First Nation. Prior to joining the University of Saskatchewan in academia, she was an assistant professor at First Nations University of Canada (FNUniv), and taught with the Nursing Education Program of Saskatchewan.

She joined the University of Saskatchewan College of Nursing in 2016. She teaches in the undergraduate nursing program and has supervised graduate learners.

Nursing students who have had Dr. Kristoff as an educator describe her as follows:

She is so knowledgeable, caring, and compassionate. I would not be where I am right now without her willingness to share her knowledge.

She has so much respect for students and is always willing to help us with anything.

I really enjoyed Dr. Kristoff’s lectures. They were clear and her instruction methods are smooth and easy to understand. She makes sure everyone understands course material.

She provides us with a deeper understanding on our previous knowledge and relates things to other courses we were taking, which was very helpful.

College of Nursing Lecturer Lisa Duffield has had the pleasure of working with Dr. Kristoff in the nursing skill and simulation labs in Prince Albert.

“Dr. Kristoff demonstrates a genuine concern for students, ensuring an open-door policy where students feel comfortable approaching her to discuss their concerns. She is highly motivated to strive for excellence in teaching by demonstrating mastery of the subject matter ensuring content is relevant and accurate.”

“The College of Nursing is incredibly fortunate to have Dr. Kristoff as both a professor and undergraduate program lead,” said Dean Dr. Solina Richter (DCur). “She is passionate about nursing education, in particular the use of technology like simulation and virtual reality to improve teaching. Her enthusiasm to teach students is evident.”

Dr. Kristoff will be celebrated as the College of Nursing recipient of the Provost’s College Award at the University of Saskatchewan Celebration of Teaching event June 18th.
