Research! Research! Research!

Lots of exciting things happening with College of Nursing research.

The 2020 - 2021 academic year has been a time for exciting change within the realm of University of Saskatchewan (USask) College of Nursing research. From the creation of a Research & Scholarship newsletter, to the launch of a new support unit, to an inaugural College of Nursing Research & Scholarship Day – there’s a lot going on.

“The COVID-19 pandemic required College of Nursing faculty to transition much of their teaching into online delivery, but despite those demands, faculty continued to advance their scholarship and research,” said College of Nursing interim associate dean research and graduate studies Dr. Tracie Risling (PhD). “Even with all the challenges the pandemic presented, our faculty still had much to celebrate when it came to research and scholarship success! This past year has also highlighted how essential nursing-led discovery is going to be in the post-pandemic transition. We look forward to the opportunities that lie ahead as our faculty continue to deliver innovative research that not only advances the nursing profession, but the health of our communities.”

College of Nursing Research & Scholarship Newsletter

Launched in September 2020, the College of Nursing Research & Scholarship Newsletter is a monthly publication used to celebrate research and scholarship successes, highlight the impact of research and scholarship activities, and to learn more about research processes, events, and training opportunities.

“The Research & Scholarship Newsletter has been a truly collaborative effort within the College of Nursing,” said Robin Thurmeier, research facilitator in the college. “As engagement with the newsletter increased, we added new sections including Researcher Q&A profiles, Research Spotlights, and quarterly Making an Impact reports. We hope this newsletter builds connections within our college and invite all nursing faculty, students, and staff to submit story ideas for future newsletters.”

NURSE

The Nursing Unit for Research and Scholarship Excellence (NURSE) was formally established in May 2021 to strengthen the research culture within the College of Nursing.

NURSE will provide a continuum of research administration support services to advance research and scholarship priorities and build success for researchers, the College of Nursing, and the University of Saskatchewan.

“I am very excited to be collaborating on the launch of NURSE,” said Dr. Risling. “This unit is a means to provide supports for our faculty across the entirety of the discovery continuum as they work to build their programs of research and scholarship. There are increasing challenges in both attaining funding and successfully overseeing awarded projects within our busy academic environments and NURSE has been established to align resources and supports to hopefully lessen these demands.”
