Biography
Dr. Shehnaz Alidina serves as the Associate Dean of Globalization, Engagement, and Development at the University of Saskatchewan (USask) College of Nursing. In this academic leadership role, Dr. Alidina advances strategic initiatives that foster global collaboration, inclusive excellence, and meaningful engagement within and beyond the university community.
In addition to this leadership role, Dr. Alidina conducts global health delivery systems research at USask in collaboration with Harvard University. This research focuses on innovations that improve care quality, integrate health services, and strengthen overall health system performance. Her areas of investigation include primary care innovation, global surgery, and learning health systems.
Previously, Dr. Alidina served as the founding Executive Director of the Nipissing-Timiskaming District Health Council and the Child Health Network in Canada. In these roles, Dr. Alidina led system redesign efforts and implemented strategic plans for health system reform and integration. Dr. Alidina also directed planning initiatives to facilitate the development of integrated, regionalized health delivery networks in Tajikistan and East Africa.
Dr. Alidina holds a Doctor of Science (ScD) and Master of Public Health (MPH) in Health Policy and Management from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, as well as a Master of Health Administration (MHA) from the University of Ottawa.
Born in Uganda, Dr. Alidina lived as a refugee in Italy, grew up in Canada, and has worked across North America, East Africa, and Central Asia. These diverse life experiences have profoundly shaped her commitment to strengthening health systems and advancing health equity for vulnerable populations around the world.
