Biography
Christine Huel (she/her) is a family nurse practitioner and PhD graduate from the University of Victoria. She has been a registered nurse since 2002, predominantly working in pediatrics and maternal child health, in addition to primary care. Over the past 20 years, Christine and her family have lived abroad in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Thailand, The Netherlands, The Republic of Georgia, and most recently Lebanon, working for embassies and humanitarian organizations. In addition to her role as an assistant professor, Christine continues to practice as a family nurse practitioner.
Research Interests
Christine enjoys exploring topics related to health care through qualitative methodologies. In particular, institutional ethnography and qualitative systematic reviews.

- Cultural humility and care of 2SLGBTQIA+ migrant youth

- University of Northern British Columbia Family Nurse Practitioner Achievement Award, May 2015, for the highest overall grade point average in the graduating class.
- USA State Department Meritorious Honor Award from United States Ambassador Charles English for critical response, triage, and emergency care given to injured riot police officers within American embassy grounds during a violent protest on April 21, 2010, against the Federation Government of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
- USA State Department Franklin Award, United States Embassy Sarajevo June 2010, for promoting nursing excellence, commitment to community outreach and assisting in the professional development of registered nurses in American, Balkan-Region embassies.
