College of Nursing Launches Ambassador Program

USask Nursing students and alumni are featured as ambassadors to show what life as a nursing student and alumnus is like.

The University of Saskatchewan (USask) College of Nursing has launched a new initiative to share the stories of our students, alumni, faculty, and staff.

The USask College of Nursing Ambassador program was introduced in January 2024.

Beginning with student and alumni ambassadors, the college communications team reached out to find interested undergraduate and graduate students and alumni willing to tell their story about their pathway to becoming a USask Nursing student or their experience as a USask Nursing alumnus.

The ambassadors' stories are featured on social media and in advertisements. Short videos capture a day-in-the-life of the ambassador to share a behind-the-scenes look into what life as a USask Nursing student or USask Nursing alumnus is like.

Since launching the program in January, four ambassadors have been featured.

Alumna Celise Hack (BSN’12) was highlighted in January, alumna and current USask Nursing clinical instructor Brooke Zwozdesky (BSN’19) shared her story in March, 4th year Bachelor of Science in Nursing student in Saskatoon Maria Allan was featured in April, and in May, as part of National Nursing Week, 4th year Bachelor of Science in Nursing student from the Prince Albert Campus Justine Capilitan told his story.

“For alumni, being a College of Nursing ambassador is a great way to stay connected with the USask Nursing community,” said College of Nursing digital marketing and communications specialist Breanna Pochipinski.

“It’s an opportunity for alumni to show current nursing students what they can expect when they enter the nursing profession.”

For prospective students thinking about becoming a nurse, the USask Nursing Ambassador program is really an opportunity to show them what it’s like to be a nursing student and for them to think about the different career paths registered nurses take.

“A lot of people only think about providing care at the bedside when they think about nursing,” adds Pochipinski. “But nursing is so much more. The profession is so diverse and the videos and stories shared through the USask Nursing Ambassador program will give an insight into what a career as a nurse can really be like.”
