Biography
Dr. Rozina Somani is an Assistant Professor at the University of Saskatchewan (USask) College of Nursing. Her career reflects over 25 years of experience in research, education, and academic leadership, with a strong commitment to equity, inclusion, and interdisciplinary collaboration in healthcare. In 2024, Dr. Somani earned her PhD in Nursing with a Collaborative Specialization in Global Health from the University of Toronto. Her doctoral research focused on workplace violence in healthcare, emphasizing the implementation of a nurse-centred reporting system. Her broader research interests include gender equity, workplace violence, domestic and intimate partner violence, and mental health. These areas align with her dedication to addressing complex social determinants of health and fostering positive change in healthcare systems.
She currently serves as a Curriculum Consultant with the National Nursing Assessment Service (NNAS), Canada. Previously, she held roles as a Research Associate (Fellow) and Instructor in the BScN Extended Program at the University of Toronto, as well as Assistant Professor and Academic Coordinator for BScN years III and IV at the Aga Khan University School of Nursing and Midwifery in Pakistan. Dr. Somani prioritizes strong educational leadership, notably leading the Peer-to-Peer Mentorship Program (2020–2025) at the University of Toronto and serving on the Academic Board of the Governing Council (2019–2020). She currently serves as Co-Chair of the Ismaili Nurses Alliance (INA), supporting internationally educated nurses in navigating licensure pathways in Canada. Her teaching and research excellence have been recognized through multiple awards, including Outstanding Teaching Awards from both the University of Toronto and Aga Khan University, the Bertha Rosenstadt Doctoral Research Dissertation Award, and the Sigma Theta Tau International Publication Award.
