Biography
Dr. Roslyn M. Compton completed their undergraduate nursing degrees at the University of Western Sydney, Hawkesbury, Australia (DipHScN’91, BHScN’92), master’s degree at the University of New England, Australia (GDAET’05, MEd (Adult)’06), and their PhD at the University of Alberta (PhD’14). They obtained their Canadian Nurses Association Gerontological Nursing Certification in 2019.
Roslyn joined the College of Nursing in 2017, after 10 years teaching nursing at the Saskatchewan Polytechnic. Prior to entering education, Roslyn enjoyed an extensive career in rural, remote, and community nursing in Australia, Saudi Arabia, and Canada with a focus on family and school health. They are dedicated to co-facilitating learning and mentorship to grow the next generation of nurses dedicated to caring with persons in relation rather than doing to or for the person.
Roslyn’s research is embedded in narrative inquiry where people live storied lives and life is lived in the midst. Their work recognizes the importance of understanding older adults’ experiences in relation to place and identity, and how social, cultural, and institutional narratives include the stories told. Their research interests include older adults, aging-in-place, interdependence, narrative gerontology, interprofessional practice, and narrative care. Roslyn’s research always uses a patient-oriented research approach to understand the experiences of older adults and their close ones concerning quality of life, interprofessional care, family presence, and care across the continuum. They are not currently accepting graduate and undergraduate learners. Commencing July 2026, they will consider requests for supervision only from learners who are studying older adults.
Roslyn is the founder of BetterLTC and the Interprofessional Experiential Experience Long-Term Care Consortium (IEE LTC) and co-founder of the Crossmount Memory Café in Saskatoon, the Saskatchewan Long-Term Care Network (SK LTC Network), and the Saskatchewan Nav-CARE program. They work closely with the Saskatchewan Health Authority, and not-for-profit and for-profit organizations to advance caring with older adults and their close ones nationally and internationally.
