Biography

Karen (she/her) is a full-time faculty member at the University of Saskatchewan (USask) College of Nursing Regina site with a teaching focus in the area of pediatric and adolescent health. Karen received her BScN from USask in 1984, her MN from USask in 2001 and her PhD from the University of Regina in 2021.

Karen is on the SaskPain Board of Directors and is the chair of the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS) Professional Practice Group in Pain Management. Karen received the SRNA Millennium Award for Innovation in Nursing and the Canadian Pain Society (CPS) Interprofessional Nursing Project Award in 2013. Karen is currently the co-principal investigator for the Improving Pain in Sk (IPSK) research project.

Funding term March 2020 through February 2022. Purpose: Community-based participatory action research to build capacity for patient family advisors, health care providers, community-based organizations, and healthcare decision makers to identify, implement and evaluate solutions for improved chronic pain management in health networks in Saskatchewan.
