Student Spotlight: BSN Student Brianna Zurburg
Brianna Zurburg, fourth-year student at Muenster distributed site, shares the value of studying in a small cohort.
Rooted in her hometown of Humboldt, Saskatchewan, fourth-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) student Brianna Zurburg is building a career grounded in compassion, connection, and community.
Come spring 2027, Zurburg will join her classmates as the first cohort to graduate from the University of Saskatchewan (USask) College of Nursing Muenster distributed site.
Zurburg maintains a strong connection to her hometown and outside of school and work, enjoys spending time with her family and being outdoors. At home, her family’s five dogs keep life busy and have helped her develop patience, responsibility, and adaptability, qualities she carries with her into her nursing education and practice.
Her diverse healthcare background in pharmacy, dentistry, and nursing has helped shape her decision to pursue a career in nursing. Her experience working as a continuing care assistant at a local hospital and long-term care home has further strengthened her communication skills, reliability, and commitment to providing compassionate, patient-centered care.
“Having had the opportunity to see healthcare from multiple perspectives has confirmed nursing best aligns with my values,” said Zurburg.
“Nursing offers me the opportunity to combine scientific knowledge, hands-on care, and advocacy, while building meaningful relationships with patients and families.”
One of the highlights of her time in the BSN program has been learning alongside the close-knit group of students at the Muenster distributed nursing site.
“Learning in a small cohort of 11 students has allowed me to build strong relationships with my peers, who have become like family,” said Zurburg.
“Our lectures have prepared me well for clinical and simulation experiences, allowing me to take what I learn in the classroom and apply it directly to patient care.”
As she enters her fourth and final year of the BSN program, Zurburg is proud of how much she has grown throughout her nursing education.
She has seen significant growth in her confidence, communication, and clinical skills, as well as in her ability to connect classroom knowledge with real-world patient care.
Following graduation, Zurburg plans to begin her career as a registered nurse and continue building a strong clinical foundation.
While she is keeping her options open, she is particularly interested in medical surgical nursing, operating room, emergency, and intensive care.
“I look forward to continuing to learn and grow throughout my career so I can provide safe, compassionate, and patient-centered care, while making a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and their families.”
