A Focus on Research and Scholarship
College of Nursing hosts 2022 Research and Scholarship Day.
The University of Saskatchewan (USask) College of Nursing has a vibrant research community. Nursing researchers are undaunted in their pursuit of knowledge – innovating and expanding their impact on the health of all.
USask Nursing came together to dig into all things research with the 2022 Research & Scholarship Day on October 13th and the Research & Scholarship Workshop Day October 14th.
“We have researchers in all stages of their careers, as well as graduate students, who have lots of research and scholarly work to inform nursing and healthcare practices and guide the development and the implementation of health policies in Saskatchewan and globally,” said College of Nursing associate dean Dr. Louise Racine (PhD). “The Research & Scholarship day is an opportunity to learn from others, share information, promote current projects, and build relationships.”
The Research & Scholarship Day kicked off with opening remarks and a prayer from Elder Judy Pelly and a morning keynote address by USask associate vice-president research Dr. Darcy Marciniuk (MD) and USask associate vice-president research (Engagement) Dr. Dawn Wallin (PhD).
The morning concluded with a panel discussion on the evolution of nursing research and scholarship with College of Nursing professor emerita Dr. Lois Berry (PhD), College of Nursing assistant professor Dr. Tania Kristoff (PhD), and recent College of Nursing PhD graduate, Dr. Kasha Mcharo (PhD).
Dr. Vivian Ramsden (PhD) from USask College of Medicine delivered the afternoon keynote address, followed by a panel discussion on collaborative research with College of Nursing professor emerita Dr. Donna Rennie (PhD), assistant professor Dr. Anthony de Padua (PhD), and graduate students Lindsey Vold and Shawn Emard.
College of Nursing graduate students were invited to present their research during a virtual poster presentation and students were awarded prizes for their abstract submissions.
Congratulations to Master of Nursing student Shannon Hyslop, first place award winner for the Masters Student Research Award and Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing students Lisa McKendrick-Calder and Uchechi Opara, who tied for first in the Doctoral Student Research Award category.
Open to the USask community, organizers saw approximately 50 participants attend the Research & Scholarship Day.
On October 14th, research sharing and learning continued with an internal research and scholarship workshop day.
College of Nursing faculty, staff, and graduate students participated in a variety of workshops in three streams – communication and knowledge translation, how to’s, and team research. Topics included research communication, media training, using social media for research, REDCap training, academic authorship, navigating ethics, building a program of research, creating and inspiring research and scholarship in teams: an edi perspective, and co-designed research.
