College of Nursing Recognized at SRNA Awards

Two faculty members, an undergraduate student and patient advocate from the College of Nursing were recognized at the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses’ Association Awards of Excellence.

The Saskatchewan Registered Nurses’ Association (SRNA) Awards of Excellence recognize Registered Nurses, Nurse Practitioners and members of the public who have made outstanding contributions to the practice of registered nursing. Please join the University of Saskatchewan (USask) College of Nursing in congratulating the following SRNA award recipients.

Effie Feeny Award for Excellence in Nursing Research
Associate Professor Dr. Marcella Ogenchuk – Saskatoon Campus

The Effie Feeny Award for Excellence in Nursing Research is given to a Registered Nurse and/or group of Registered Nurses who has made an outstanding contribution in the field of nursing or health-related research that enhances the nursing profession.

Elizabeth Van Valkenburg Award for Excellence in Nursing Education
Associate Professor Academic Programming Cheryl Besse – Saskatoon Campus

The Elizabeth Van Valkenburg Award for Excellence in Nursing Education is given to a Registered Nurse and/or group of Registered Nurses who is making an outstanding contribution to nursing education in direct care and/or who is fulfilling the role of educator in a post-secondary program.

Ruth Hicks Award for Student Leadership
Teri Rothenburger, 4th Year Bachelor of Science in Nursing Student* – Saskatoon Campus

The Ruth Hicks Student Leadership Award is given to a nursing student or group of nursing students who demonstrate leadership as an individual or as a group. The student must be enrolled in a Saskatchewan-based degree nursing program.
*Teri was a student at the time of award nomination, but has since completed the nursing program.

Honourary Membership Award
Patient Advocate Heather Thiessen (nominated by USask College of Nursing)

A SRNA Honourary Membership is awarded to a “non-nurse or a nurse registered outside of Saskatchewan, and is granted by Council in recognition of distinguished service to the registered nursing profession.
