College of Nursing’s 2018 Provincial Tour

The College of Nursing 2018 Provincial tour was a success; members of the leadership and strategic teams connected with 150 alumni, 100 students, 50 faculty and staff, 30 partners and community members respectively.

Ile-a-la-Crosse

The College began our provincial tour in Ile-a-la-Crosse at St. Joseph’s Health Centre, home of the College of Nursing’s classroom and skills lab, where we met with students, learning more about their experiences in the nursing program. Following a tour of the community by Mayor Favel, the College met with representatives from the Primary Health Care Northwest, and later on, joined community members at an evening feast hosted by Orana.

La Ronge

The College met with nursing students at the new classroom at “The Rock” campus in the Mistasinihk Building, followed by a visit to the nursing lab in Air Ronge. In the afternoon the College of Nursing and Northlands College had a productive conversation regarding our northern program, followed by a visit to the Jeannie Bird Clinic. Our tour ended in La Ronge with a round-table discussion in the evening with alumni, students, community, and partners.

Yorkton

The southern part of our provincial tour began in Yorkton where the College of Nursing team met with second-year nursing students at the college’s lab space in the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. Following the meeting with students, members of our team met with representatives from the health region, where we discussed clinical placements and USask’s growing presence in southern Saskatchewan. In the afternoon we met with Parkland College team, followed by an evening reception with friends of the college at the Gallager Centre.

Regina

Members of the College of Nursing team met with nursing students at the USask Regina Campus, where we had lunch with the student body and had an informal conversation regarding their experiences in the program. Following lunch, members of the faculty and staff connected before our drop-in reception at Hotel Saskatchewan with alumni and the nursing community.

Prince Albert

After visiting northern and southern Saskatchewan, leadership and strategic team members ended the College’s provincial tour in Prince Albert. We met with student groups, and faculty and staff during the day, and finished our day at the University’s soon to be new campus, the Forestry Centre. The evening was filled with nursing, arts and science, and dentistry alumni, faculty and staff, as well as members of the community. The new campus is expected to open in May 2020 and will be a northern gateway hub and support both the College of Nursing and University’s northern strategies.
