Tammy Morrison Completes BAC Program

Tammy Morrison walked proudly across the stage at U of S Convocation on June 6th to celebrate the completion of her Business Administration Certificate from the Edwards School of Business.

Work two jobs. Balance family life. Study. Repeat. This has been College of Nursing staff member Tammy Morrison’s schedule since September 2015 when she started her Business Administration Certificate (BAC) program with the Edwards School of Business. Fast forward to June 6, 2018 and Tammy has successfully completed her program and earned her BAC.

“I really enjoy the behind the scene administrative work I have been doing, but I also wanted the opportunity to try something new,” said Morrison. “I knew in order to advance within the University, I would need more formal training. I looked at the BAC program and weighed the options of completing that or enrolling in a degree program, but ultimately decided the BAC program worked best for me.”

Tammy has worked at the University of Saskatchewan for 25 years in a variety of positions. She feels strongly her BAC education has already been put to good use. “I look at planning events and work activities in a more strategic way and through some of the classes I completed, I have a better understanding of the human side of why things happen in an administration and academic setting. My favourite class was organizational behaviour, which really taught me to understand the why of how situations happen and with all the change I’ve seen over 25 years at the U of S, after completing my BAC, I now better understand different perspectives when analyzing these changes.”

Making the decision to return to school, while working more than full time and raising a daughter, was no easy decision for Morrison. “I really feel like I accomplished something to be proud of both at home and at work….I’m proud of myself!” And as you should be Tammy – completing the BAC is not an easy, inexpensive or quick thing to do!

“I would like to thank Lorna Butler, Dean of the College of Nursing at the time I started the program, for encouraging me to do it and to my colleagues who helped me along the way. Holly, who taught me how to learn again 25 years from the last educational journey, Shawn, with accounting, the “Heathers” who were so encouraging and the Faculty and Staff Development committee who helped me over the humps financially to finish a year sooner than planned. But most of all, thank you to everyone, both in my personal and work life, who helped me along this journey.”

Tammy was recently recognized for her 25 years of service at the University of Saskatchewan Long Service Awards, participated in the 2018 Annual Graduation Powwow and celebrated her BAC by walking proudly across convocation stage on June 6th. Congratulations Tammy!!!!
