Regina and Yorkton Students Deliver Poster Presentations

There was a lot of excitement at the Regina and Yorkton campuses last week, as fourth year undergraduate students hosted poster presentations to share a term worth of work with faculty, staff, peers and community stakeholders.

NURS 422.3 is a class that introduces theories, research, issues and competencies in relation to leadership and management. As part of this class, students analyze current and future issues affecting health care leadership and examine the potential impact on nurse leaders and managers. Students in Associate Professor Dr. Gerri Lasiuk’s class were asked to work in groups to identify a topic or problem of interest to nurse leaders and managers and work all term to develop an in-depth paper. Students selected a wide range of topics including mentorship and the retention of graduated Registered Nurses (RN), RN and Licensed Practical Nurses scopes of practice and the implication of the new NCLEX-RN licensure examination for nurse managers.

Part of the assignment was to summarize the findings of their papers in a poster and to present their posters to nurse leaders, faculty and other students in Yorkton (November 24th) and Regina (December 1st). In addition to providing students with an opportunity to develop their knowledge in an area related to nursing leadership, the assignment was a way of connecting theory with practice. “We had a good response in both communities and the students were thrilled to present their work,” said Lasiuk.
