Prince Albert Students Compete in Annual Poster Competition

Over the past three years, Associate Professor Dr. June Anonson from the Prince Albert campus has been providing students an opportunity to experience what it is like to prepare and deliver a scholarly poster in their final theory class.

Each year several of the groups present their poster at a televised City Council meeting requesting support and engagement of the City leaders. There have been a range of topics presented over the years including drinking and driving, the response time of emergency services, safe injection sites, etc.

This year there were 12 teams who submitted posters, 39 students in total. The competition is a community event with judges from partnering agencies such as the Prince Albert Parkland Health Region, the First Nations University of Canada, the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch and the Saskatchewan Penitentiary, just to name a few.

“The students work hard on their posters and are very excited to present them to the community leaders, alumni and other students,” said Anonson. “This year the poster that won the competition examined the roles of LPN’s and RN’s….one of the issues facing nurses in our province today. The students always exceed our expectations; we look forward to supporting this learning opportunity again next year. Hopefully students will learn, grow and become confident in doing this and will continue on with this sharing of best practices and important issues when they become nurses. Students have been quoted as saying ‘this is one of the highlights during our years in the program’.”
