Nursing Students Host CNSA Regional Conference

This year the 2013 Regional Conference, hosted by the Nursing Education Program of Saskatchewan (NEPS) and the University of Saskatchewan College of Nursing, was held in Saskatoon from October 24th - 27th, at The Sheraton Cavalier Hotel. Students who attended the conference were given the opportunity to enhance their knowledge by attending keynote speaker sessions, participating in workshops and interacting with fellow students and healthcare workers.

The theme of this year's conference was "Upstream Nursing: Building Bridges for A Better Tomorrow". Upstream nursing focuses on primary prevention and addressing root causes of disease and disability. This conference helped participants recognize the social, economic and environmental origins of health disparities. By better understanding the social determinants of health, nurses can achieve improved health status and greater health equity in the populations they serve.

"Being selected to host the CNSA Regional Conference was a wonderful opportunity. By hosting the event in Saskatoon, more nursing students from Saskatchewan were able to attend. The conference gave nursing students a chance to gain new knowledge and an understanding of how the social determinants of health impact our community and our patients," said Regional Conference Director Ashleigh Jaman.
