Cheryl Besse Receives Provost's Award for Outstanding Teaching

The Provost's Award for Outstanding Teaching annually recognizes an outstanding teacher in each College at the University of Saskatchewan.

The 2012 College of Nursing recipient is Cheryl Besse. Cheryl is honoured for her achievements in outstanding teaching and educational leadership.

Cheryl is delighted and honored to be the recipient of this award. When asked about her teaching style, Cheryl says, "I think I started to develop my teaching beliefs even before I was a teacher. As a nursing student I realized the best instructors cared - they cared about their discipline, about teaching, about students and that students learned what they needed to be successful. Over my career as a nursing instructor, I have been able to distill my teaching philosophy down to a few words: passion and caring. I am passionate about what I am teaching and I believe we learn best when we feel safe and cared about. My goal is to create an environment that maximizes learning."

Cheryl is a Limited Term Faculty member at the College of Nursing and has taught in the undergraduate and post RN programs since 1994. Her teaching areas of interest include obstetrical nursing, health assessment and skills. Cheryl finds tremendous satisfaction sharing her passion when teaching nursing students in the College of Nursing.
