Green and black text on a white background. Text says "I Remember by Dr. B Lee Murray. I remember returning to school to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (post Registered Nurse). I was terrified that I may not be able to do it. Four years later I was teaching clinical for the College of Nursing and three additional years later I was offered a faculty position. I remember my first office in Ellis Hall. The walls were so cracked and marketed that I sponge painted them. I remember the office move to MRB. Brand new digs with a view and a sense of camaraderie and mentorship. I remember the office move to St. Andrews; same crew with some additional faculty and staff, and that same sense of connectiveness but with no view. I remember the office move to the new Health Sciences Building and all of nursing faculty being together for the first time (at least for awhile). It definitely was a room with a view!"

What a contrast, an overhead projector to amazing technology. I remember invigilating my last exam in Convocation Hall. It seemed fitting. I was thrilled, I have always loved that space and all the memories it must hold. I remember when my third and fourth year students realized the importance of therapeutic communication and the challenges of learning those skills. The realization, the light bulb lighting up, just made me want to hug them! I remember the success of the Safe Environments Project, the hard work and the fun! I remember getting ready for an 8:30AM class and hearing the news of 9-11 and standing watching the TV in disbelief. During class that morning, we talked about what happened and shared our emotions. It seemed life an important thing to do. Some student just heard about it when they came into class. I remember my last fourth year community clinical group in the time of COVID. I remember those who rose to the occassion and those who struggled. I remember packing up my office in preparation for retirement and all other offices being empty. There was no one to say goodbye to. I remember walking out with the last box and realizing someone else's name would be on my office door soon. I wasn't sad though. I remember feeling happy that I was moving on to other adventures and the fun life of retirement.

It truly has been an honour and priviledge to have spent most of my nursing career with the College of Nursing, University of Saskatchewan. For over 30 years, I had the pleasure of working with undergraduate and graduate students, and an amazing group of colleagues. Much of my research and scholarship has focused on professional role development for nurses and other healthcare professionals who work with criminal justice involved persons. I believe we were the first nursing program in Canada to place students within secure clinical environments - this was in the early 1990s - and in 1993 we produced a documentary entitled Custody and Caring: A Challenge for Nursing. I suppose I am most proud about my overall contributions to mental health nursing, forensic mental health nursing, and correctional nursing - clinical areas that are all too often steeped in stigma. Throughout my career, I have endeavored to embrace all that i have done with integrity, social justice, and a commitment to advancing the profession and discipline of nursing. I would like to thank my family for their love and enduring support of my work - my husband Sean, daughters Marissa and Meghan, son James, and my sister Maggie - who continually remind me that I am retired, as I am not very good about saying "no" especially when asked to partake in things that continue to intrigue me."

Wilda started working with the College of Nursing in 1989 when she met Bonnie Schoenfeld who had a group of students at the public health unit where she worked. She began as a sessional clinical instructor and started her Masters of Nursing in the fall of 1991. Wilda worked with the college until 1997. After pursuing other interests and living in other provinces, she returned to Saskatoon in 2011 and returned to the college as a clinical instructor. In 2014, Wilda became a clinical placement coordinator in the Bachelor of Science Nursing program, and in 2017, started working with the Master of Nursing, Nurse Practitioner program until her retirement in April 2021. During her years at the college and in her retirement, she has been able to contribute to the college through participating in writing of four program approval/accrediation reports for both the undergraduate and NP program. and one review of the graduate program. Wilda acknowledges the privilege of being able to make a difference in the lives of students who were working towards the goal of making a difference in the lives of others. She remembers fondly supporting faculty and staff working to make a difference in the lives of students. On good days or bad, that was her goal! As she has transitioned to retirement, she continues to be motivated to continue to find opportunities to contribute and make a difference to her family, friends, groups, and community. She is grateful for the support, relationships, and opportunities!"

It is difficult to narrow the highlights of my time at the college to one, as I was blessed to experience so many incredible moments, from travelling to China with the nurse's group, accompanying students to Tanzania to work with the Mama Kwanza project, researching perceptions of breastfeeding mothers, and of course, working with an incredible group of wise, dedicated, and fun college faculty and staff to provide high quality nursing education. I think I am proudest of our project with street-involved youth that ran as part of the community health and mental health clinicals in Regina from 2014 to 2022. Funding from the USask Community Engaged Scholarship Fund and Later K and S Potash allowed our students placed at a local NGO to prepare a meal and deliver a recreational or education event on Tuesday nights when the organization had no other programming. Since attendance was optional, our students needed to work with the youth to design a meal and activity that met the interests of this group. I believe meaningful mentoring relationships developed between our students and the street-involved youth. I am hopeful this experience informs how those students interact with the street persons they now encounter as registered nurses in the healtg care system. Thank you and very best wishes to my fellow retirees!"
